Update: September 9, 2013

September 9, 2013

On September 4, Barry received the news from his doctors that a new nodule was discovered on the CT scan he had performed that Tuesday at his follow up. T. After 3 sets of x-rays and than the CT to cap off the long day that was expected to be a short day. The longer than expected day that was well worth it as the nodule may not have been discovered until October or November on the next set of scans. The nodule is 1cm in diameter in size which is the smallest that it can be detected on any type of scan. It is on his left lung. On a side note the MRI from the week before came back good.

Today (9-9-13) Barry had his follow up discussion with the doctors about the recent findings and what approach would be taken. They’re a few different approaches to take. Which both would involve chemotherapy….. Again!
No radiation on the horizon at this point.

The proposed plan of action is to first get a current PET scan performed to evaluate the uptake/cellular activity in the specific area as well as the rest of the body. After the PET scan results come back he’ll than make his decision as to what way he would like to move forward. Aside from chemotherapy removal of the tumor is an option albeit it is small in size, the removal would allow for a biopsy to be performed to take a look at it under a microscope. The doctors are reasonably positive it is Ewing’s again; however their is always the possibility it could be another type or a small percentage that it could be benign.

We thank everyone for their continued prayers & support.
